Dead Money
(1.) A slang for money or chips that are placed into the pot by an unskilled player who is unlikely to win it back.
(2.) Chips or money that are taken into the pot that are not part of a particular player's bet. This includes bets of players who have folded or money placed in the pot before the deal.
"Dead Money is the kind of money that I like to win most.”
Deal
To give out cards to Poker players.
The dealer must always Deal clockwise to the left.
Dealer
The player who assumes responsibility for passing out cards during each Poker hand. The dealer may not necessarily be the person passing out cards, however, they are usually marked with a token.
Remember, the Dealer is your friend.
Dealer-Button
A flat disk-like object that is placed on the table in front of the dealer.
The Dealer Button reduces confusion in a game where the players are not dealing the cards themselves.
Dealer's Choice
A rule that allows the dealer to decide which poker game is to be played for that hand.
“The dealer said we'd play Omaha for that hand because it was Dealer's Choice .”
Deal In
A request from a player to be added to the game. “Could you deal me in?”
“Bill showed up late and asked for a Deal In .”
Declare
To announce one's actions or intentions.
“I Declared that I was going to raise in order to see my opponents reaction.”
Deuce
A two.
“All he had was a seven and a Deuce .”
Dog
A shortened form of the term underdog.
“I could tell that I was definitely the Dog in that poker game.”
Dominated Hand
A hand that is acceptable to play, but tends to lose against similar non-straight/flush hands. For example Ace-two is a dominated hand, because it will lose against other hands that contain Ace.
“She played that Dominated Hand right until the end.”
Dominating Hand
An excellent hand that wins over many other hands.
It's always nice to start with a Dominating Hand .
Double Belly Buster
A two-way inside straight in games involving six or more cards. This is also sometimes called a Double Gunshot.
“My hand was no match for the Double Belly Buster .”
Down and Dirty
The final hole card dealt in seven card stud.
“Down and Dirty” is often uttered by the dealer when making the final deal.
Draw
(1.) High draw poker.
(2.) To receive draw cards.
(3.) To discard a card and have dealt a replacement.
There are many ways to Draw in poker.
Draw Dead
To draw a hand that cannot possibly win.
The last thing you want is to Draw Dead .
Draw Hand
To improve your hand so that it beats an opponent who had a better hand prior to your draw.
A Draw Hand is a great way to turn the tables on your opponent.
Drawing Hand
A hand that needs improvement to win. A drawing hand is usually a straight or a flush.
“The question is… how far are you willing to take your Drawing Hand ?”
Drop
To fold.
It is good to know when to Drop .
