Motor City Gets A Facelift

Motor City Opens Doors After Massive Renovations

Detroit’s Motor City Casino was proud to show off one million square feet of newly renovated space on the morning of September 8, 2008.

The property has undergone a three-year $300 million facelift that included re-modeling and expanding its gaming area, adding many amenities - including a new 400-room hotel, a spa, and theatre and convention space.

As it stands the casino features eight new bars and restaurants with varied themes, including a non-smoking quiet bar near the hotel.

The highlight of the tour was a new 1,886-seat live entertainment theatre called the Sound Board. This area offers suites for rent with a bar and private butler.
The theatre features digital video, lighting and sound systems and the bottom floor converts into a disco.

CEO Gregg Solomon called it “the best place a musician could play in” and went on to comment that the only place that rivals it in terms of sound quality is the House of Blues in Vegas.

“It’s more cutting edge than the standard fare,” said Solomon, who plays a variety of instruments including the electric bass. “We believe we are pushing the envelope in providing edgy entertainment.”

Officials will kick off the opening of the theatre with live acts that they will announce as early as Friday.

Motor City Casino revenues have trailed MGM Detroit Grand since that casino opened its new property and have surpassed those of Greektown Casino, which has historically been the area’s poorest performer.

Solomon said the casino has done well considering “we’ve been under construction for all of these years” and that now that the property is finished it can fully sell itself as an entertainment destination to the region.
