John Mark Tirey, a sheriff in Walker County plans to ask a judge to shut down Helping Hands Charity Bingo, an electronic charity bingo hall operating in that county. Tirey filed a lawsuit Friday, May 23rd that says the bingo hall on Pineywoods Sipsey Road is operating without valid bingo permits and had violated county and state bingo rules.
Efforts today to reach the bingo hall or an attorney for Helping Hands were unsuccessful.
The lawsuit asks retired Mobile Judge Braxton Kittrell to issue a preliminary injunction to stop the bingo hall from operating. Kittrell was appointed to hear several Walker County bingo lawsuits that have been filed since 16 bingo halls with more than 2,200 electronic machines popped up around the county in the past year.
Kittrell scheduled a 10 a.m. conference call Tuesday, May 27th with attorneys for Tirey and Helping Hands Charity Bingo to hear the sheriff's request.
